Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Steparö mobile application and related services ("Steparö", "the app", "we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Steparö is

Steparö rewards you for walking. The app reads your daily step count from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android), converts qualifying steps into points, and lets you redeem points for vouchers offered by participating businesses ("merchants").

2. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 16 years old to use Steparö.
  • One account per person. Accounts are personal and may not be shared, sold or transferred.
  • You must provide accurate registration details and keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity on your account.
  • A valid phone number may be required to verify your account.

3. How step counting works — important technical rules

Please read this section carefully. These are technical properties of how the app works, and points missed because of them cannot be credited retroactively.

a) Steps come from your device's health platform. Steparö reads steps recorded by Apple Health or Health Connect. You must grant the app permission to read steps; without it no steps can be counted.

b) You must open the app at least once every 14 days. Steps synchronise when the app is opened. The app back-fills missed days up to a maximum of 14 days into the past. Days older than 14 days that were never synchronised are permanently lost and no points are awarded for them.

c) Days are only "topped up", never reduced. If you open the app mid-day and walk more afterwards, the remainder of that day's steps is credited the next time you open the app (within the 14-day window). A day's recorded count never decreases.

d) Manually entered steps do not count. Steps typed into the Health app by hand (rather than recorded by a device sensor or watch) are excluded from counting.

e) One device at a time. Each calendar day is credited from a single device. If more than one device reports steps for your account on the same day, only the highest single-device count is used — step counts from different devices are never added together.

f) One account per device per day. A device's steps for a given day are credited to the first account that synchronises them. Other accounts signing in on the same device that day are not credited those steps.

g) Daily milestones and caps. Points are awarded when your daily step count crosses milestones: 5,000, 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 steps. Each milestone is awarded at most once per day. Steps beyond 20,000 in a day earn no additional points.

h) Days run on your device's local time zone. A "day" is midnight-to-midnight in your device's local time.

4. Points

  • Points have no cash value, are not exchangeable for money, and are non-transferable between accounts.
  • Points can only be spent on offers available in the app.
  • We may change point values, milestone thresholds or the rewards structure. Changes apply from the date they take effect and do not affect points already earned.
  • Points obtained through fraud, manipulation or breach of these Terms may be voided.

5. Vouchers and offers

  • Offers are provided by merchants, who are responsible for fulfilling them. Steparö acts as an intermediary and does not itself supply the goods or services offered.
  • When you redeem an offer, the point cost is deducted immediately and a voucher is issued. Each voucher has its own validity period, shown before redemption. Expired vouchers cannot be used, and points spent on them are not refunded.
  • A voucher is used by presenting it to the merchant, who verifies and redeems it in-store (or, where indicated, through the merchant's online store). Each voucher can be used once.
  • Offers may be limited in quantity, limited per user, or withdrawn by the merchant. Availability shown in the app is indicative until redemption completes.

6. Leaderboard

  • Steparö displays a weekly leaderboard (Monday to Sunday) ranking users by total weekly steps.
  • Your display name and profile photo are visible to other users on the leaderboard. You can change your display name in your profile at any time.
  • Leaderboard totals depend on synchronised steps; steps not yet synchronised (see section 3) do not appear.

7. Fair play

The following are prohibited and may result in points being voided, or your account being suspended or terminated:

  • Simulating steps by any artificial means (shaking devices, mechanical rigs, step simulators, modified health data or modified apps);
  • Sharing one account across multiple people or devices to pool steps;
  • Creating multiple accounts for one person, including to abuse referral rewards;
  • Using VPNs, proxies or other location- or identity-masking tools to circumvent the app's rules or protections;
  • Attempting to interfere with the app's operation, its servers, or other users' accounts.

We may employ technical measures to detect manipulation and may withhold rewards pending review. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to remove or void points and vouchers, and to suspend or permanently block accounts, where we suspect abusive behaviour — including but not limited to the use of VPNs, multiple devices, or multiple accounts. Where reasonably possible we will notify you of such action, but we are not obliged to reinstate points, vouchers or account access lost as a result of suspected abuse.

8. Health disclaimer

Steparö is a rewards app, not a medical device or health service. Step data and milestones are provided for motivation only and are not medical advice. Consult a qualified professional before beginning any exercise programme.

9. Your data

Our collection and use of personal data — including step data — is described in the Steparö Privacy Policy, available in the app under Profile → Privacy & Data. In short: step totals are used solely to calculate rewards, and your health data is never sold or shared with merchants.

10. Account deletion

You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent: your profile, step history, remaining points and unused vouchers are removed and cannot be restored.

11. Service availability and changes

  • We aim to keep Steparö available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Synchronisation depends on your device, its health platform and network connectivity.
  • We may update, change or discontinue features of the app. Material changes to these Terms will be announced in the app; continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance.

12. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Steparö is provided "as is" and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for steps lost due to the synchronisation rules described in section 3, for the acts or omissions of merchants, or for inaccuracies in step data produced by your device's health platform. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Malta. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Maltese courts.
